Free Digital Money is a free open source project to promote and stimulate ideas and innovations in the field of digital currencies.

The project is developing a Digital Money system and applications, suitable for teaching and playing around with ideas.

The project has 3 components:

  • A Mint
  • A Wallet
  • A Messaging Server

The Mint and the Wallet are both standalone applications. Anyone can run a Mint; anyone can have a Wallet.

The Wallet is capable of handling currencies issued by any number of Mints.

The Messaging Server is a web application, run on this website; its purpose is to allow different users to communicate from behind firewalls.

Summary

The prime objective is to create an free open-source project for digital money.

  • The project is intended to be suitable for use as teaching tool.
  • Users can mint their own money e.g. anyone can act as a mint.
  • The system is based on tokens (as opposed to a simple back-end database-driven system).
  • It is not anonymous or double-blinded.
  • The system uses an open framework available for others to plug-in other digital coin systems.
  • We aim to create and manage a community of users/developers based around the FreeDMoney project.
